Megan Spainhour joined AASLH in 2024 as the Office and Membership Coordinator. Growing up in Orlando, Florida, her fondest childhood memories include spending time at the library, which led to a love of history, learning, and reading. Megan moved to Nashville in late 2010 and in 2023, graduated from the University of Memphis, earning her BA in Anthropology with a minor in History. Prior to joining AASLH, she worked at the Tennessee State Library and Archives (TSLA), which furthered her passion for history, while also learning about preservation. While working at TSLA, Megan and her team earned the 2020 Leadership in History Award from AASLH for their work collaborating with the Grassmere Historic Farm at the Nashville Zoo. This was a project initiated by Megan. Specific interests in history include Native American history, women’s history, archaeology, and pre-history. Megan is a member of Historic Nashville, Inc. where she enjoys volunteering with the Events Committee. Her professional experiences also lie in community engagement, event planning, and working with local non-profits. In her free time, she enjoys finding new creative outlets, gardening, hiking, tent camping, cycling, photography, genealogy, and exploring with her husband and rescue pup Scout.
